CompuLab’s IOT-GATE-IMX8PLUS is a modular, highly versatile gateway designed for industrial IoT applications

Yokneam, Israel 21-June-2022 – CompuLab introduces IOT-GATE-IMX8PLUS – an industrial IoT gateway, offering rich and versatile functionality in a miniature, rugged housing. Built around CompuLab’s own UCM-iMX8M-Plus System-on-Module, IOT-GATE-IMX8PLUS features the NXP i.MX8M Plus SoC coupled with up-to 8GB RAM and 128GB storage.

IOT-GATE-IMX8PLUS provides a wide range of wireless and wired interfaces required in typical IoT control and monitoring applications:

  • LTE modem, WiFi 802.11ax, Bluetooth 5.3 and GNSS
  • Dual Gbit Ethernet ports with PoE support
  • USB3.0 and up-to 3x RS485 / RS232 ports
  • CAN bus and digital I/O

Optimized for Industrial Deployment

IOT-GATE-IMX8PLUS has been designed to address the requirements of IoT integration in industrial environments:

  • Operation in wide temperature range of -40C to 80C
  • Input voltage range of 8V to 36V and PoE client
  • Hardware watchdog and secure boot
  • Isolated industrial interfaces (CAN, RS485, RS232, digital I/O)
  • Shock, vibration, dust and humidity resistance
  • DIN-rail and wall / VESA mounting

Modular and Customizable

Each IoT project presents different connectivity requirements that cannot be addressed with a single hardware configuration. In addition to configurable RAM, storage and wireless options, CompuLab’s modular I/O design enables IOT-GATE-IMX8PLUS to provide any combination of up-to 3x RS485 / RS232 ports and optional digital I/O.

IOT-GATE-IMX8PLUS functionality can be extended even further with custom, application specific I/O expansion boards.

Software Support

IOT-GATE-IMX8PLUS is provided with ready-to-run Debian Linux with built-in Docker support and easy-to-use deployment tools, allowing customers to focus on application development.

Customers who prefer to configure a custom O/S image can leverage the IOT-GATE-IMX8PLUS Yocto BSP which includes Linux kernel 5.15, Yocto Project 4.0 and U-Boot boot-loader.

In addition, IOT-GATE-IMX8PLUS supports popular IoT frameworks such as Docker, Microsoft Azure IoT and Node-RED.

OTA updates can be integrated using a pre-configured Mender layer.

Also available as SBC and SOM

CompuLab SOM SBC IOT-Gateway product family

For projects that require custom housing with simple integration, IOT-GATE-IMX8PLUS is also offered without the enclosure – as SBC-IOT-IMX8PLUS.

Customers that require a radically customized form-factor or functionality can leverage IOT-GATE-IMX8PLUS for development and quick proof-of-concept and then make a seamless transition to a fully custom design with the UCM-iMX8M-Plus System-on-Module, while benefiting from proven hardware and existing software stack.
