MCM-iMX93 is a tiny, ultra low cost solder-down SMD System-on-Module based on NXP i.MX 93

08-May-2023 – Compulab introduces the MCM-iMX93 SMD System-on-Module, built around NXP i.MX 93 System-on-Chip family.

Designed to bring out the full capabilities of the i.MX 93 SoC, MCM-iMX93 provides up-to 2GB RAM and 64GB eMMC, 2x Ethernet RGMII, 2 USB ports, 2 CAN-FD, 8 UARTs and up-to 80 GPIOs. Display connectivity is supported with LVDS, MIPI-DSI and parallel RGB.

Excellent connectivity, low cost and small size make MCM-iMX93 a versatile solution for many applications such as building and industrial control, medical devices, IoT gateways and measurement equipment.

Advantages of a Solder-Down SOM

MCM-iMX93 SMD system-on-module

MCM-iMX93 surface-mount form-factor provides a number of advantages:

  • Lowest cost – SMT assembly saves cost of connectors and manual SOM mounting
  • Smallest foot-print – requires the least amount of space on the customer’s carrier-board
  • Increased robustness – optimized for systems subjected to shock or vibrations and for applications that require conformal coating
  • Easily assembled – solderable as a regular QFN component. Designed specifically for easy SMT assembly

MCM-iMX93 Software

Compulab supports MCM-iMX93 with a full BSP and ready-to-run images for the Linux operating system. The MCM-iMX93 BSP includes Linux kernel 6.1, Yocto Project SDK and U-Boot boot-loader.

OTA updates are supported using a pre-configured Mender layer.
